North Cyprus (the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, TRNC) is a common choice for dealer meetings and company conferences run from Türkiye. Flights to Ercan Airport leave from Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir and Antalya, Turkish citizens enter with their national ID card, and the currency is the Turkish lira. With an all-Turkish guest list, the logistics are close to a domestic event. With international dealers or staff, the entry rules below need planning before invitations go out.
Why companies choose North Cyprus
For a Turkish team, an island meeting without passports or visas is the main draw, and many cities in Türkiye have direct flights to Ercan. A coastal hotel with its own meeting rooms can host the sessions, the dinners and the evening events on one site, which suits companies that want the whole programme under one roof.
Kyrenia, Bafra, Famagusta and Nicosia
| Area | Drive from Ercan | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Nicosia (Lefkoşa) | 27 km, 35 min | Half-day or one-day business meetings, meetings with institutions |
| Kyrenia (Girne) and nearby Alsancak, Çatalköy | 50-58 km, about 1 hour | Groups that want a harbour, an old town and hotel choice in one place |
| Famagusta (Gazimağusa) | 47 km, 55 min | Meetings combined with history, university partnerships |
| Bafra (İskele) | 71 km, 1 hr 15 min | Groups that want the meeting and the leisure time in one resort |
We calculated the times without traffic using OpenStreetMap road data. Kyrenia and Bafra are about 80 km apart, so pick one base rather than shuttling between them.
Kyrenia gives delegates something to do after the sessions: the harbour in the evening, Kyrenia Castle or Bellapais Abbey by day. Bafra works the other way round. There is no town around it, so most of the programme happens inside the hotel. Famagusta has the Eastern Mediterranean University and the ancient city of Salamis, which makes it a natural fit for academic meetings. Nicosia is the capital and the practical base for meetings with public bodies.
Flights to Ercan and hotel transfers
Scheduled flights to Ercan depart from airports in Türkiye. Pegasus flies to Ercan from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen, Ankara, İzmir and Antalya among other cities. Other airlines serve Ercan too, so check current schedules on each airline's own website. Delegates flying from outside Türkiye connect in Türkiye, usually in Istanbul.
Arrivals spread across the day, so plan coach transfers in time slots based on the flight list. The drive takes about an hour to Kyrenia and about an hour and a quarter to Bafra.
Entry rules: ID cards, passports and foreign delegates
Foreign delegates enter on a passport. Some nationalities need a TRNC visa, which they can apply for through the TRNC Directorate of Immigration e-Visa service. Alongside tourism, it has a category for business meetings and events, and the documents it asks for include accommodation details and an invitation or event letter. The service quotes three to five working days for tourist visas and says other types depend on assessment, so start early.
Because every flight connects in Türkiye, the Turkish rules apply too. An August 2023 notice from the TRNC Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists 57 countries whose citizens need a Turkish double transit visa to reach the TRNC through Türkiye. A delegate from any other country who leaves the airport during the connection enters Türkiye and needs whatever visa or e-Visa their passport requires. Check each nationality against the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa list.
Some foreign delegates ask about flying into Larnaca or Paphos in the south and crossing by land. The rules for that route depend on nationality and on how both sides apply them. Before building a group around it, ask each delegate to read their own government's official travel advice for Cyprus.
Turkish citizens enter on a passport or a Turkish ID card. According to the Turkish Embassy in Nicosia, children under 15 travelling on an ID card need a card with a photo. Ask Turkish delegates to bring the new-style ID card or a passport to avoid problems at the border.
What to ask a hotel about its meeting space
If the meeting will be in the hotel's own rooms, ask these questions in writing:
- How many people does the main room seat theatre style, and how many at banquet tables? Our meeting room and layout guide shows how much this changes the numbers.
- Is the ceiling high enough for a stage and a projection screen?
- Are there smaller rooms near the main room for breakouts or workshops?
- Is another group or a wedding booked in the hotel on your dates?
- Does the hotel have a casino?
The last question is neutral. Some large hotels in North Cyprus have casinos on site, and some company policies or delegate groups call for a hotel without one, so it is worth knowing before you choose.
The best months for a meeting
According to the TRNC Meteorological Office's 1991-2020 normals, North Cyprus has an average annual temperature of 19.5°C. July and August are the hottest months, January and February the coldest, and most rain falls in December and January. The average high in September is still 31.7°C.
For a programme that is indoors by day and outdoors in the evening, spring and the later part of autumn are the most comfortable. In July and August, move every outdoor activity to the evening. Winter is mild but wetter, so plan dinners indoors and confirm that the hotel will be open on your dates before you sign.
Combining a dealer meeting with a reward programme
Distances on the island are short, so a meeting and a reward element fit into the same day. Sessions run in the morning, the afternoon is free time at Kyrenia harbour or a visit to Salamis, and the awards dinner closes the evening. Our dealer meeting planning guide covers the balance between business and leisure, and our incentive trip programme guide covers how to design the reward.
Frequently asked questions
How do foreign delegates enter North Cyprus?
On a passport. Depending on nationality they may need a TRNC visa, applied for through the TRNC e-Visa service. Citizens of the 57 countries on Türkiye's double transit visa list also need a visa for the connection. Anyone else who leaves the airport in Türkiye falls under the Turkish visa rules.
How long is the transfer from Ercan to Kyrenia and Bafra?
Without traffic, about an hour to Kyrenia and about an hour and a quarter to Bafra. For a group, add the time it takes to fill each coach.
Is the island suitable for a 500-person meeting?
The headcount alone does not settle it. You need to check together whether the room seats 500 in your layout, whether the hotel can release around 250 to 300 rooms on your dates and whether the flights can carry the group. We choose the room with you based on dates and layout.
What currency is used?
The Turkish lira. When you ask for a hotel quote, check which currency the price and the invoice will be in.
Send us your dates, the number of delegates and the cities and countries they will fly from, and we will prepare a side-by-side draft for two areas of the island. Our meeting services page explains how we work.
