Antalya gives a congress organiser two quite different options. You can hire one of the city's convention centres and spread delegates across nearby hotels, or you can hold the whole event inside a large resort with its own congress halls. The choice shapes transfers, contracts and the delegate experience more than any other decision, so it comes first. For the general method behind programme, registration and speakers, see our guide to organising a congress.

Convention centre or congress hotel

Convention centreCongress hotel
AccommodationDelegates split across several hotelsRooms and halls on one site
TransportShuttles every morning and eveningTransfers only on arrival and departure
ContractsVenue, rooms and catering signed separatelyOften a single contract
ExhibitionEasy to add a separate exhibition hallLimited to foyers and pre-function areas

A resort works well when the plenary fits one hall and the breakout rooms sit on the same floor. Nobody waits for a coach, and the evening dinner is a walk away. A congress of several thousand delegates, or one with a large sponsor exhibition, needs a convention centre, and the room block then has to be split between hotels.

Antalya's convention centres

Cam Piramit (the Glass Pyramid), officially the Sabancı Congress and Exhibition Centre, is in the city at Meltem, close to Konyaaltı beach. The Sabancı Foundation built it in 1997 and the Metropolitan Municipality holds the right to use it. It is also home to the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. It is about 20 minutes from the airport without traffic and 8 minutes from the old town, Kaleiçi, which suits congresses that want delegates in city hotels and evenings on foot.

ANFAŞ Antalya Expo Center is in Aksu, about 5 km from the airport. Alongside its exhibition halls it has a large conference hall that can be divided and a set of meeting rooms. It is an obvious candidate when the exhibition is as important as the sessions.

We do not quote hall capacities here. The same hall seats very different numbers in theatre, classroom and banquet layouts, and venues refurbish their rooms from time to time. Ask each venue for capacity in writing, for the layout you will actually use. Our article on choosing a meeting room and layout shows how much each layout changes the numbers.

Lara, Belek or the city: where delegates stay

With a convention centre, the distance from hotel to hall is paid twice a day. We calculated these driving times without traffic using OpenStreetMap road data.

AreaFrom the airportTo Cam PiramitTo ANFAŞ
Konyaaltı23 km, 25 min3 km, 5 min21 km, 21 min
Kaleiçi and city centre16 km, 20 min6 km, 8 min14 km, 16 min
Lara16 km, 20 min20 km, 23 min15 km, 17 min
Belek33 km, 35 min47 km, 45 min29 km, 30 min

For a congress at Cam Piramit, a delegate based in Belek spends an hour and a half a day on the road. Belek makes more sense as the congress venue itself. It has the golf courses and the big resorts with large halls, and delegates can stay on site for the whole event. Lara sits between the two, about 20 minutes from the airport and from both convention centres. Our Antalya incentive travel guide covers what each area offers outside the meeting room.

Airport transfers and getting around on congress days

Antalya Airport has direct flights from across Europe, so international delegates often arrive on many different flights across a single day. Once you have the delegate list with flight times, group the coaches by arrival window, put a welcome desk in the arrivals hall and open hotel registration the same evening. That keeps the first morning's queue short. Summer traffic on the airport roads is heavy, so add a margin to the times above.

At a convention centre, morning shuttles have to land everyone before the first session. Each extra hotel adds another shuttle line, which is why keeping the room block to two or three hotels simplifies the operation.

Many nationalities can enter Türkiye visa-free or with an e-Visa, but the rules depend on the passport. Check speakers and delegates against the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa list when you send invitations.

Medical congresses: TİTCK sponsorship rules

If pharmaceutical companies are going to fund healthcare professionals to attend, Turkish rules apply. They are set by the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TİTCK). The company files the notification, at least 15 working days before a meeting held in Türkiye. The support is paid to the organiser rather than to the delegate. Sponsorship cannot be filed under names such as gala dinner, opening cocktail or social programme, so those costs have to come from registration fees or the organiser's budget.

Medical device companies follow a separate TİTCK guide. These rules change from time to time, and a local partner should check the current versions with your sponsors before the dates are fixed.

The best months for a congress

Figures from the Turkish State Meteorological Service put the average high at 34.2°C in July and 34.1°C in August. Sessions are indoors, but transfers, coffee terraces and evening events are not. March averages a high of 18°C and November 21.4°C, and for medical congresses both months also sit outside the summer sponsorship window.

December and January are mild but wet, with 11.9 and 12.4 rainy days on average. Winter congresses work, provided the contract confirms that the hotel will be open on your dates, that the foyer is heated and that meals can be served indoors.

Frequently asked questions

Lara or Belek for a congress?

If the congress is in a hotel, either works, and the deciding factors are hall size and the social programme. If it is at Cam Piramit or ANFAŞ, Lara and the city hotels are much closer.

How far ahead should an Antalya congress be planned?

Work backwards from the fixed deadlines: sponsor notifications 15 working days ahead, a live congress website before that, and the hotel block and halls confirmed before registration opens. In practice that puts the start of planning many months out.

Can delegates add a few days of leisure?

Yes. A pre or post tour along the coast is easy to arrange, and our company gala night guide covers the closing dinner. For a medical congress, keep leisure costs out of pharmaceutical sponsorship.

Send us your dates, the expected number of delegates and how much exhibition space you need, and we will compare a convention centre and a resort option for Antalya side by side. Our congress and seminar services page explains how we work.
